I got this recipe from a friend and I have a request from another friend to post it! It is good stuff, we are having it this week.
Cincinnati Chili
1 Tbs vegetable oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 lbs ground beef
1/4 cup chili powder
1tsp ground cinnamon
1tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1 bay leaf
1/2 (1 oz) square unsweetened chocolate
2 (10.5 oz) can beef broth
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
2 Tbsp cider vinegar
1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper
1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1. Heat oil in a large saucepan over med heat. Add onion and cook, stirring frequently, until tender. Cook beef in broth- do not drain.
2. Add chili powder, cinnamon, cumin, allspice, cloves, bay leaf, chocolate, tomato sauce, cider vinegar, and red pepper. Stir to mix well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
3. It is the best if you now refrigerate overnight.
4. Remove the bay leaf. Reheat gently over med heat. Serve over hot, drained spaghetti. Top with shredded cheese, and whatever toppings you choose, onions, peppers, etc.
It seems weird to add chocolate to chili but really it's yummy!
If there is chocolate..maybe my kids would eat it! :)
